Described by Homer as \u2018the City of gold\u2019,\u00a0Mycenae\u00a0promises to travel you to the\u00a0Kingdom of mythical Agamemnon\u00a0from the moment you enter\u00a0the Acropolis\u00a0through the legendary\u00a0Lion Gate, a symbol of the power of the royal house of Mycenae. The city-state reached the height of its rule during the Late Bronze Age (1350 \u2013 1200 BC). The surviving records and remaining monuments show Mycenae architecture was impressive as were their artifacts and their culture. The oldest ruling was traced as early as 1700 BC and the first monumental tombs were built at that time. Following in the footsteps of the Atreids, you can admire the\u00a0\u201cCyclopean walls\u201d,\u00a0the famous\u00a0\u201cTreasury of Atreus\u201d,\u00a0the\u00a0\u201cTomb of Clytemnestra\u201d, the\u00a0\u201cPalace of the Atreids\u201d, the burial mounds, to name but a few of the exciting remains that have earned Mycenae a place among the greatest towns in antiquity.<\/p>\n

In antiquity, Epidaurus was connected with the healing center of Asclepeion and is considered that it was one of the origins of medical science. The art of drama in Epidaurus was also connected with the healing of the human soul, the supreme beauty and moreover the elevation of the human spirit. The theater, built on the west side of Cynortion Mountain, near modern Lygourio, is considered to be the most perfect ancient Greek theatre with regard to acoustics and aesthetics. The monument retains the characteristic tripartite structure of a Hellenistic theatre that has a theatron, orchestra, and scene. Today in Epidaurus, modern artists organize newer versions of ancient tragedies, as well as the Festival of Epidaurus, also known as Epidavria.
